Through The Round Window....

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on O's bed and on your patience regarding project Home Sweet Home. I would dearly love to show you some pretty photographs of my 'New Home'. Like most who embark on the same refurbishment journey, I know it can be a long process, we have had a few snags along the way, and to be honest would rather it take a little longer than we originally thought but get it right. Though I am sure even then it shall not be Mmmmm how can I put it quite right :)

I have some new little photographs on my sidebar to hopefully make up for it somewhat.

Having read some delicious Blogs, one thing that is intrinsic in most of our lives it that our homes are ever changing, I seem to be never quite happy with this or that, always one more little D.I.Y. job to be done here or there. If you are anything like me I seem to be constantly moving things around, why do I do that. Even friends who come to visit remark on objects, furniture, photographs, etc were in different places when they came before.

Do you move things about like me.

So on to my lovely round windows, we have three upstairs in the attic conversion. We have one in each of the children's bedrooms and one in the dormer bathroom. I had thought of them without any dressings as they are quite nice to look at, though as they are children's rooms really do need something to darken the room a little for naps etc.

You all have such good taste and can come up with some wonderful and inspiring solutions to anything, so I thought I would take this opportunity and ask how can I dress a round window. Do any of you have round windows in your homes, I have looked at bespoke blinds but dont really have hundreds of pounds spare right now :) I really would love any of your ideas and suggestions, I love all things girly and pretty, and maybe thought of a little pelmet, though not sure Little Man would like that look in his room :) He is having somewhat of a boats theme, CK Boats wallpaper and bedding, Ohooo have you seen CKs new boats design, it is very nice.

Look forward to seeing what you think.

Regarding Darling Husband's redundancy, it is getting rather tense here. I think it is the not knowing, especially for Darling Husband as it looks like it is between him and a colleague who of course, is also a friend, and he is looking into the possibility of voluntary. We are finding talking helps, we are getting better at it each time we go through this :) and plenty of hugs, also reminding ourselves that we are together and we have food on the table, and for me, reading your lovely Blogs, with your wonderful craftiness, lovely comments and inspirational photographs cheer me right up.

Thank you so much.

  1. I have a feeling it wont be too long before we are seeing even more lovely pictures from your Home Sweet Home Mary :-) it was looking very nice last time I saw it!!! RE the windows - this might be a bit basic but have you thought about having a circle cut out of MDF that would sit in the recess and maybe cover in oilcloth/wallpaper/fabric to match the room (so maybe use boats etc) - you could even make it so it was like a round padded noticeboard effect that could hang on the wall when not in the windown recess??? does any of that make sense!!!! IM sure you will be inundated with lots of fab ideas - Melmel is good at stuff like this !
love Ladybird books i must investigate on my next visit!

  2. Hi Mary, how exciting for you that your getting to the nice bit of renovating. What about bunting around the window, I'm a bit clueluss with window treatments though!! Lesley's sounds like a good idea, it would be like a proper port hole! Have a great weekend, looking forward to seeing more lovley pics, I'm loving your new side bar ones!! Claire xx

  8. My first thought was a circle of wood - it could be hinged so it's sort of like a shutter? And I love lesley's idea of covering it to match the furnishings too.

  9. Mary ... lots of hugs for a very difficult time.

As for the round window ... have you seen the round noticeboard that Lace Threads made? It's on her blog.... you could combine this with Lesley's idea and, as she says, pop it in the window at night and on the wall during the daytime.

  10. Whoops, it wasn't Lace, it was DollyD who made the round noticeboard!

  11. Mary - I have a spare circle of MDF - if you measure your window we can see if it will fit??
Its good that you are feeling a bit more positive - it is a worrying time and sometimes we all need reminding about what is really important :)

  13. Hiya

Love the round window, so nice! If it was my house I'd probably put a slim pole above it and have a single simple panel of boats fabric with maybe co-ordinating gingham ribbon tie tops (rather than tab tops - I hope you know what I mean!) and then a chunky rope tieback in a shade that matched the ties to hold it back to one side during the day. It could be artfully arranged during the day time to still show off the circular window. Just what sprang to mind straight away anyway!

Really like you side photos, very nice :)

  14. I like the window very sweet, I would probably have to go with Lesley or Mel, I can’t think of anything else, if I do I will pop back.
You have got some lovely pretty pictures on your side bar!

  15. I was going to say a hinged shutter too! Isn't that what they have on boats? Now that could be an idea.. research ship cabins online?

Hope everything goes well for you and your husband. Now is such an uncertain time.

  16. Hi Mary,

Glad you like the idea, but I won't be offended if you decide against it! Hopefully the pics will explain a bit better...

I meant a tie back a bit like this: http://www.johnlewis.com/230414244/Product.aspx

And curtains made like this: http://shopping.sky.com/product/Curtains-Blinds/BEST-Tie-top-net-curtains-in-muslin-blend/10171343

I've done a (rubbish!) drawing of what I imagine it would look like: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u197/Flenser/DSC00607.jpg

  17. How lucky to have round windows - what a terrific feature. I love the idea of notice boards/boards covered in fabric like Claire's round board. It's all going to look so lovely.
Hugs and talking will certainly help you through what must be a difficult time for you. Lots of good wishes from me as well. xxx

  19. Hmm...dressing a round window, now that's a tough one, not done it before, looks like you've had some good suggestions though. If it were me I would go with the idea of a wooden shutter.

  21. Thank you so much everyone for your brilliant suggestions :)

I am rather liking Mels, Country In The Town, beautiful drawing she did especially for me, thank you mel :)

I love the mdf, and pin board and shutter ideas though as it is moi who is going to have go at making it, may be too difficult :)

Mels design is so pretty and shows off the window a treat

  22. Awww bless you, of course you can copy the drawing! It's so much bigger on screen than real life where it's about 2" tall! I don't think it would be too difficult to make, I've made tab top ones before which isn't too different so if you want any advice let me know :)

  26. Hello!
I was just sat here thinking about moving some furniture around..I think I am suffering from Sunday Evening boredom - but I have always loved rearranging things..even as a little girl me and my friends would play at rearranging our bedrooms.

such a lovely blog. I can´t translate all, but your pictures have their language. I love "Mary Poppins", the book was favorite when I was a child. And the film...don´t ask how many times I saw it.

Your little boys room is lovely and so are your round windows I was thinking of using bunting as a sort of pelmet in the childrens rooms? Hope things turn out ok for your husband. best wishes
