Fifty Shades

I must be one of last people in the world to see and read all the hype about this book. I kept hearing other people talking of it, giggling, telling me I MUST get it. I felt very much that I was missing out on something rather special, and I was eager to find out for myself what all the fuss was about. So, for just a little short of £3 I am now reading all about the antics of Mr. Grey....

The thing is, it's not really floating my boat. Maybe I am past it, maybe I just didn't take to the term 'Popsicle' being used as an analogy for a certain something of Mr. Grey's. I admit I still have a way to go with it, but am  keen to hear whether I should carry on, that, as I progress further into the book, I shall indeed become one of those who says to others "You really HAVE to get this" I am one of those that a book ( especially of this genre) has to take me on a journey of self discovery and I need a good story to back it up. Well, this book, raunchy though it is, I feel lacks real substance. Maybe I am thinking too much and wanting more, maybe I should take it for what it is, enjoy the good bits and miss out the not so good....

So, have you read it? Has it been everything that you hoped it would be.

Would love to know your thoughts....

  1. Hmm, your blog is the 2nd to mention this book today. Cherry Menlove has a discussion about the book on her Facebook page.
    Take care, Marianne.

  3. I wrote my opinion of the book in my blog. I loved fifty shades though and am totally addicted, lol. It isn't my usual read, I guess I fell in love with Ana and Chritians relationship.

    3. Thanks Mary, that's very kind. Have finished the book, but only because it is my book club's read for this month. Had it not been I would have given up on it. I felt it to be incredibly repetitive, dull and I truly have no idea why it is receiving so much attention. XX

  6. Oh no. I'm definitely one of the ones that has become addicted! It's not my Usual genre I have to admit but I have almost finished all three books in the space of a week.. it's not the raunchy side of things that I have got addicted to, it's Christian and Anna's relationship that I'm hooked on...

  7. Mrs Poppins....
I bought the first one to what all the fuss was about - its ok, but not as naughty as i expected. The story line hasn't really held my attention, so I probably won't buy the other 2, not that the author will miss my pennies!

On a lighter note, a friend told me there is a game you can play whilst reading.
Each time one of the follwing is mentioned, have a drink

    Biting lip
    Rolling Eyes
    Foil Packet
    Oh My
    Inner Goddess
    Darkening Eyes
    Shattering
    Blushing

Sounds fun & possibly one wouldn't be bothered by the story/writing style/literary worth/hype by the end...

  8. Ha ha ha ha....Oh L your comment made me chuckle like you wouldn't believe! I guess I want the impossible, a bit 'o raunch with a good storyline. Seems I may have a way to go with this one, the raunchy bits are alright and I kind of am enjoying the book for what it is....

    ;))

P.S. I AM SO going to play that game!!

    Big hugs x x

  10. i've never heard of it, but then me missing something very obvious isn't unusual! i doubt i'll read it as i'm not convinced and i'm not keen on reading 'slop' (as i call it) novels, and believe you me i'll read any old drivel!

  11. Ohooo I couldn't resist knowing what all the fuss is about ;) Is a bit 'sloppy' but sometimes I just need a bit of light relief ;)) x

  12. EVery one seems to be talking about this book and I'm tempted not to read precisely because everyone is talking about it and don't want to be disappointed if its tripe!!! Is it tripe???

  13. I read all 3 in just over a week too and was addicted to the story between Christian and Ana, I felt lost when I'd finished them! My friend then told me about another book similar to this called Bared to You by Sylvia Day and is better written, just as rude (maybe more) but to me didn't have the same pull as the Fifty ones. I do enjoy reading a good love story and the only other set of books that had me completely hooked were the Twilight ones! I normally read just chic stuff nothing to heavy, it's hard to find time to read with kids isn't it?!
